The Emergency Management Department of the City of Bristol, led by Director, Harland (Harley) Graime and the volunteers from the City of Bristol Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will gather at Veteran’s Memorial Park, 575 Pleasant Valley Road, South Windsor on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. along with the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) from the Connecticut Capital Region. This community field day will allow the CERTs to educate the public about the importance of being prepared for emergencies or disasters within their homes, neighborhoods, and the community overall.

Hourly scheduled demonstrations will be conducted ranging from skills such as First Aid/Controlling Bleeding, and Basic Fire Suppression, as well as advanced skills which include Canine Search and Rescue, Drone Operation, and Mountain Bicycle Search and Rescue techniques.

Attendees will be able to visit the various CERT teams to learn what they can do to prepare themselves and their families prior to or during an actual emergency when public safety entities may be delayed in their response.

Materials such as how to prepare a “Get Home Kit,” a “Ready Kit,” or other important plans based on the National Emergency Preparedness campaign and the Connecticut Ready.gov programs will also be available.

“This event presents an opportunity for the public to meet and get to know their local CERT team members, learn what they do for their communities and possibly how to join them.”
– Harley Graime, Director, Emergency Management Department, City of Bristol, CT.

The general public is encouraged to attend this FREE event. There will be adequate free parking within Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
