A member of New Britain Pride on Facebook posted a picture of New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart making an inappropriate gesture at the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The member posted “The apple does not fall too far from the tree look out in New Britain Connecticut leaders lead on her visit to the White House with a giggle on her face she flips the bird and Nancy Pelosi’s office nice going stay tuned people the truth is going to start coming out like a California forest fire.”
This comes on the heels of her Father Timothy Stewart, the ex-Republican mayor and current head of the Greater New Britain Chamber of Commerce, was placed on administrative leave Wednesday after he commented on a photo of female members of Congress, calling them: “Bitches in heat!”
The mayor’s office issued a statement that said, “Mayor Erin Stewart has asked her father, Tim Stewart, to step down from both the New Britain School Building Committee and the Mattabassett District Commission. The Mayor has accepted his resignations, effectively immediately.”
Stewart reacted on Twitter to her father’s Facebook comments, saying: “To all those asking; I’m embarrassed and mortified.”
The picture of Erin Stewart has not been verified and one member said “ A 10 year old picture! Yeah let’s take out the baby pictures too!”
Another said “Like the blackface pics aren’t old everyone is offended by.”
The post in the group continues to grow with more comments of support and ridicule for the Mayor.
The Mayor’s Office could not be reached for comment.
