The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) announced today the names and locations of nine new dispensary facilities that will be licensed by the state’s Medical Marijuana Program.

These new facilities will join nine existing dispensary facilities, and four producers as licensed facilities with the program.

A Request for Applications (RFA) was issued at the beginning of 2018 for three to ten dispensary facilities.

The Medical Marijuana Program in Connecticut has grown significantly since the last time new facility licenses were awarded in January of 2016. At that time, there were 8,228 patients benefiting from the program. Today, there are 30,448.

“This program has been thoughtfully expanded since the bill was signed in 2012, and medication became available to patients in 2014,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull.”

“Originally, there were only 11 conditions that would qualify adults for medication, and there were very few patients. Today, there are 31 conditions for adults, eight for patients under 18, and over 1,000 certifying practitioners.

This medication has improved the quality of life for tens of thousands of patients. We look forward to working with our partners as the program continues to expand.”

The Healing Corner, at 159 East Main St., in Bristol has been open for a couple years now to patients. In order to be a patient you must register with the state and obtain a prescription from a registered physician.

Geri Ann Bradley, the principal of The Healing Corner said “We have a very clear and immediate mission at The Healing Corner and that is to educate our city officials, our fellow medical professionals, our neighbors, and everyone we come in contact with on the benefits and legitimacy of medical marijuana in patients who have lost all hope in conventional therapies”

If you qualify for the pallitative use of marijuana, a physician can certify you through the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.

Only a physician can initiate an application by certifying for the Department that you have a medical condition that qualifies you for a medical marijuana registration certificate.

The Healing Corner will also form a Philanthropic Advisory Board comprising members of the state and local community.

The Healing Corner expects to give 1% of its revenue to charity. The Board will determine how to distribute these monies.

Some of the charities The Healing Corner intends to support are Catholic Charities, AIDS Connecticut, Society of St. Vincent DePaul and other foundations.
