Lieutenant Governor-elect Susan Bysiewicz is joining lieutenant governors and lieutenant governors-elect from across the country at the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) New Member & Business Meeting. The two-day meeting, which began today in Alexandria, VA, offers educational opportunities and leadership training to current lieutenant governors and those newly elected to the position.

The meeting includes workshops and panels focused on an assortment of important issues facing every state or U.S. territory.

The meeting’s agenda includes topics such as workforce and economic development, veterans’ issues, emergency response preparedness, state and municipal relations, and legislative relations. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for peer-to-peer exchange on best practices for offices of the lieutenant governor.

“I am delighted to meet my Republican and Democratic colleagues from across the country. I look forward to collaborating with them and to having the opportunity to hear different perspectives on how best to tackle some of the most critical issues facing our states,” said Bysiewicz.

“I am excited to return home with an additional set of resources that I am sure will help Ned and me hit the ground running on Day 1 to advance our vision of creating good paying jobs and growing the economy in Connecticut.”

The NLGA, organized in 1962, is the bipartisan professional association for the elected officials first in line of succession to the governors in the 50 states and five U.S. territories.

The purpose of NLGA is to promote efficiency and effectiveness of the office of lieutenant governor, to foster interstate cooperation, and to provide a medium for the exchange of views and experiences on subjects important to the people of the states and territories.
