Numerous progressive and gun violence prevention organizations and activists have united to urge petitioning candidates Oz Griebel and Monte Frank to immediately drop out of the race to endorse Ned Lamont and Susan Bysiewicz for Governor and Lieutenant Governor for Connecticut.
The release states: Griebel and Frank have run a respectful and positive issue-based campaign up to this point however all polls demonstrate that there is no clear pathway for their victory on Election Day.
By remaining in the race, they are pulling votes away from Ned Lamont and Susan Bysiewicz which would help Bob Stefanowski and Joe Markley, who have been endorsed by Donald Trump, the National Rifle Association and the Connecticut Citizens Defense League. Joe Markley has also been endorsed by the anti-choice anti-LGBTQ Family Institute of Connecticut.
Stefanowski and Markley will not work to improve access to reproductive health care, promote racial justice, protect key provisions related to equality for LGBTQ persons, or protect hard working immigrants in Connecticut.
They will work to repeal the Sandy Hook gun laws and Stefanowski has made a commitment to veto all gun violence prevention laws if elected. In addition, Markley has said he would eliminate the Commission on Human Rights and Equalities if elected.
Griebel and Frank recognize the danger that a Stefanowski/Markley administration poses to the State of Connecticut.
By dropping out of the race, they will have the impact they hope to have on safeguarding Connecticut’s values and the important issues that they care deeply about.
It is time for Griebel and Frank to unite in support of the one gubernatorial ticket who can win this race: Ned Lamont & Susan Bysiewicz.
