More Republicans Continue to Send Misleading Political Mailers

Linehan said the left is the photo from the mailer. On the right is a photo of me and my friend and colleague William Tong, who worked with me on comprehensive anti-human Trafficking legislation to protect minors. It’s the same photo, with Malloy’s head photo shopped on there.

The Record Journal reports another misleading mailer by a Republican candidate happened again.

Democratic state Rep. Liz Linehan criticized a mailer sent out by her Republican opponent Diane Pagano, saying it unfairly portrays her voting record and inappropriately characterizes her relationship with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. Linehan covers the greater Southington area.

The mailer includes a picture of Linehan posing with Rep. William Tong, D-Stamford, but has Malloy’s face superimposed over Tong’s.

The mailer includes the line: “Liz Linehan will always stand by her Dan.”

Here is what Linehan had to say about Pagano’s mailing on his Facebook page:

My opponent expects you to believe that after all evidence to the contrary, I’m somehow in cahoots with Malloy. She even stole a photo of me with my friend and colleague, and photo shopped Malloy’s head on it. She thinks you’ll fall for that.

I’ve included it below for your wholehearted belly laugh. Although, it’s not very funny when someone who wants to represent you has a campaign based on lies; you deserve better than that.
Still….something deeper bothers me. “Stand by her Dan”. Why must there be undertones of a romantic or sexual relationship? Aren’t we beyond that? Isn’t that cheap?

Not only is this mail piece built on lies and lewd undertones that my success is due to my sexuality, it is factually incorrect throughout the whole piece.

And again, another misleading mailer is in question. This time it is in East Haven.

CT News Junkie reports nobody knows that better than Democratic State Rep. James Albis, who is seeking re-election to his fifth term this coming Tuesday against Republican Bob Parente.

But Albis, who represents the 99th District, said Parente has reached a “new low” with his recent mailer that included a photoshopped image of unpopular Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in place of Albis’ father, Judge Michael Albis, in an image taken from James Albis’ wedding album.

Here is what James Albis had to say about Parente’s mailing on his Facebook page:

“I have always prided myself on running a positive campaign. I know we disagree on some issues. But we agreed to keep this election civil. He (Parente) shook my hand, and looked me in the eye, and said he was going to stick to the issues and not make this election personal.

“Well, now he’s sent a negative campaign mailing where he doctored a photo from my wedding day,” Albis said. “This is a new low for East Haven politics. This was one of the happiest days of my life, marrying the woman of my dreams. Apparently, Mr. Parente has decided he has no problem tarnishing those memories.”

Albis continued, “We are better than this. Families should be off limits.”

Also this week, Rep. Matt Lesser, who is running for the state Senate seat in Middletown found out he was a victim of misleading mailers.

Lesser said knew there would be attack ads and nasty mailings distorting his voting history. But he was not prepared for the mailer that came from Edward Charamut, his Republican opponent.

The mailer shows a distorted image of Lesser holding five hundred dollar bills in his hand. Above the image it says “Less for Seniors. That’s Matt Lesser.”

The mailer uses an altered image of a wide-eyed, maniacally grinning Lesser grasping hundred-dollar bills, one that Charamut’s campaign first defended as simply portraying Lesser as a tax-and-spend liberal.

Last week Republican Cara Pavalock-D’Amato representing District 77 in Bristol sent out a mailer claiming a local school was closing.

The mailer says: Cara will fight to keep Edgewood School open.”

After learning about the mailer, Democratic challenger Kevin Fuller posted on social media:

“Last night and this morning I have been getting numerous calls regarding a mailer my opponent sent out in regards to Edgewood School. It said she is fighting to keep Edgewood School open.

This was news to me so I went back 9 months of Board of Education minutes and found nothing about closing any schools in Bristol. I can not speak for her as where this information came from and in fact a State Representative has no involvement in local Board of Education decisions.

If you share this with your Edgewood Family then everyone can rest easier. Thank you for calling me so I could get clarification for you.”

Political mail is an easy and cost-effective way to create material promoting political candidates, referenda, or campaigns. Political mail can be sent from a political candidate, federal, state or local campaign committee, political party or by an individual.

Political mailings are designed to create an emotional reaction. Clearly, emotions are running high.

The 2018 elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 These midterm elections will take place in the middle of Republican President Donald Trump’s first term.

All 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested.

In addition, 39 state and territorial governorships as well as numerous other state and local elections will also be contested.

FARMINGDALE, NY —  The coronation had more spice than he would have liked, but Brooks Koepka held his nerve to seal back-to-back PGA Championship titles to confirm his status as a once-in-a-generation player. The 29-year-old refocused after a serious wobble to triumph by two shots from the fast-finishing Dustin Johnson to become only the fourth player to score four major titles in the span of eight starts after Ben Hogan, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. The muscled Floridan is the […]
