Bristol Mayor Zoppo-Sassu Announces Police Lip Sync Challenge to Premiere at the “We Are One” Softball Game

We Are One Charity Softball Tournament 2016

On Saturday, September 15th, the third annual “We Are One” community softball game will be held at Muzzy Field. Bristol business owners, community leaders, teachers, children and first responders will be featured in three back-to-back softball games.

“We are excited to announce that right before the Police v. Fire game, we will be premiering the Bristol Police Lip Sync Challenge video,” stated Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu. “Produced by Tom Mazzarella of MazzMedia, it is a wonderful way to end the summer. We have all enjoyed the videos from other departments and we think ours is the best.”

The video will be shown between the second and third games, at approximately 7:45pm. The Park Department will be utilizing the Showmobile to stage the video.

“Dunkin’ Donuts has generously offered to sponsor the Lip Sync Challenge Premiere at Muzzy Field,” stated Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu. “We greatly appreciate their generosity and support, and hope everyone enjoys the cameo appearance the Dunkin donuts and coffee have in the video.”

Beginning at 4:30pm, the public is invited to historic Muzzy Field in a show of unity to watch the games. The first game will consist of children from the Boys & Girls Club. The second game pits local community leaders against Bristol teachers. The night will wrap up with a highly competitive game between Bristol Police and Fire departments.

“We have made some changes to the format this year,” stated event organizer Morris “Rippy” Patton. “The Mum Festival is now the official sponsor of this event, along with their full schedule of other events celebrating Bristol, and those attending are asked to make a free-will donation or donate school supplies. The goal is to “Stuff a Cruiser” with supplies which will be donated to the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s Adopt-A-Child Back to School program.

“This has been something we really look forward to,” said Bristol Police Union Jim Pelletier. “We spend a lot of time interacting with the public in our professional capacity. These games give our officers and the firefighters a chance to show the community we are a part of it, even when the uniform comes off.”

Sean Lennon, President of the Fire Union Local #773 agreed and said “the Fire Department will be fielding a team, as well as having fire trucks at Muzzy for the community to see up close.”

“We have been privileged to be part of this event since the inception three years ago,” said Bristol Police Chief Brian Gould.  “Each year the event grows and organizers are always looking for ways to improve it. The goal is to bring our Community together to demonstrate our support and caring for each other.  The “We Are One” logo says it all, and we are looking forward to a great day spending time with one another. While at the same time collecting needed supplies for our children.”

People lining in up as ‘Avengers: Endgame’ poised to topple box-office records

NEW YORK  — By any measure, the release of “Avengers: Endgame” is a movie-theater event unlike any other. When the 22nd film in Marvel Studios’ saga opens in North American theaters on Thursday night, it will land on more screens than any movie ever has in U.S. and Canadian theaters. And even still, the 4,600 theaters the Walt Disney Co. has lined up may still not be able to keep up with demand. Beginning Thursday night, many theaters will stay […]

The bill was handed to Joseph Yun, the former State Department Special Representative for North Korea who traveled to Pyongyang […]

Study: Gender differences in autism could be from protein dysregulation.

Study: Gender differences in autism could be from protein dysregulation.

According to the group Autism Speaks, boys are four times as likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls, and there is still no clear answer as to why, although one research team from the University of New Hampshire has made some inroads towards an explanation. While gene mutations, additions and deletions have long been associated with autism, this group is looking in a different area, protein regulation in the brain. “Protein regulates neuro-development, regulates the synapse’s formation,” said Dr. […]
