As part of its Community Breadbox program, nine Hartford area Panera Bread cafes, members of the Howley Bread Group franchise, recently donated $7,869 collected from its customers to Foodshare, an organization dedicated to feeding the food insecure in the area.

Throughout 2017, customers and employees of Panera Bread cafes in Hartford, Canton, Southington, Bristol, Enfield, Farmington, South Windsor, West Hartford and Manchester were invited to donate to a Community Breadbox donation canister to help support the mission of ending hunger in America.

“We are very grateful to Howley Bread Group for the generous support and commitment provided each year through the Community Canister Program,” said Al Marino, Corporate and Community Giving Manager, Foodshare. ” On behalf of the 127,000 people who are food insecure in Hartford and Tolland counties, Foodshare says thank you.”

Foodshare, the region’s largest non-profit food bank, provides food to about 300 food pantries, community kitchens and homeless shelters in Hartford and Tolland counties and serves about 11.5 million meals a year.

“Over the years we’ve worked to connect with and support the local organizations that provide hunger assistance in our communities,” said Tom Howley, Senior Vice President, Howley Bread Group. “Through end-of-day food donations, sponsorships, and community-sponsored initiatives such as the Community Breadbox program, it’s our goal to make a difference to those in need.”

Howley Bread Group, LTD of Lincoln, Rhode Island, a franchisee of Panera Bread, owns and operates 28 Panera Bread bakery-cafes in Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut.

Panera/Howley Bread Group’s cafes donated more than $5,700,000 a year in food and funds to a variety of community charities
