Senior Citizens Discover a Passion for Painting

Many residents of Belden Forest Court in Simsbury have discovered a passion for painting through a series of art classes offered at the independent living community. Their finished creations will be on display in May.

Spring is a season full of new beginnings, and the senior residents at Belden Forest Court in Simsbury are discovering a new passion for painting. March is also full of creative activities that the residents and the community can enjoy.

The Belden Forest residents have been taking a painting class with local artist Brian Colbath, known for his landscape scenes of Hartford and the surrounding area. His work has been featured in galleries and juried art shows throughout Connecticut, and he regularly works with businesses, architects, friends and all art lovers. He is now sharing his talents with the residents at Belden Forest, and their paintings are coming along brilliantly.

“These paintings are coming out really well after only three classes,” said Belden Forest Court’s Director of Operations Tony Uanino Jr., “I’m very impressed, and when they’re all finished sometime in May, we will display them in the community.”

The active seniors have also been gathering for a small Coloring with Catherine class, often accompanied by Community Services Officer Lauren Devin, of the Simsbury Police Department.

In addition to art classes, residents will be treated to individual visits with Bella, the therapy dog, on March 6th and March 27th. Both Bella and her doggie pal Beau will come back on March 14th for their usual group visit. The residents will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a corned beef lunch at the senior center on March 15th and everyone will color Easter eggs at Belden Forest Court on March 29th.

Belden Forest Court is an independent living community for ages 55+ planned for the safety, convenience and dignity of its residents. Located at 40 Firetown Road Simsbury, CT, it is situated on ten park-like acres convenient to the center of town. Units are available to buy or rent.
