My name is Marcus Grumley and I am a Senior at Bristol Central High School. I attended the state senate debate on Monday evening at St. Paul’s high school. To me, the most important question asked to the candidates was the one regarding the drastic rise in college tuition.
I was very disappointed when Sen. Martin said his solution to the problem was to tell kids not to go to college so the demand would decrease.
I feel that Bristol public schools have prepared me well for college with putting emphasis on college prep courses and AP classes.
I felt that as a senator he was sending the wrong message to students like myself. Mike Nicastro said that colleges should work together with local businesses to help inspire students to become entrepreneurs and that we should not be handing a diploma in one hand and debt the size of mortgage to the other hand.
When listening to Mike Nicastro I feel his passion for the issue and I very much appreciate his stance on the cost of college.
Since I am only 17 and not vote, I ask that others go out for me and vote for Mike Nicastro on November 8th.
